Terry Ford

Terry Ford plays Lt Brannigan

A classically trained Baritone, Terry has sung and acted across Yorkshire in oratorio and concerts and in a wide variety of stage roles, including Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof (for which he received the LCAG Award for Best Actor in an Acting/Singing Role), Emile de Becque in South Pacific, Alexander Molokov in Chess (which he also played for LAOS earlier this year), Mr Bumble in Oliver, Lt Shrank in West Side Story, Miles Gloriosus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Reverend Shaw Moore in Footloose and Caiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar.

Richard Pascoe

Richard Pascoe plays Arvide Abernathy

Richard has been performing in a range of local operas, operettas and musicals for nearly 15 years. He started out with Leeds Youth Opera, where his favourite roles were Ping in Turandot, Swallow in Peter Grimes and Papageno in The Magic Flute. Richard then moved to West Riding Opera , playing Kecel in The Bartered Bride and Figaro in The Marriage of Figaro. Roles in operetta with Leeds Gillbert & Sullivan Society have included Florian in Princess Ida, Pooh Bah in The Mikado, Shadbolt in The Yeoman of the Guard and the Earl of Mountararat in Iolanthe. Occasionally he has enthusiastically tried his arm at musicals - Charlie in Merrily We Roll Along, Frederick in A Little Night Music and Sweeney in Sweeney Todd.

This is Richard's fourth show with LAOS, previosly playing Caiaphas in Jesus Christ Superstar, Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd and Sir Edward Ramsay in The King & I. 

Richard Billings

Richard Billings plays Nathan Detroit

Richard is from Morley in Leeds and completed his acting training at Bretton Hall in 2007. From there, he discovered a passion for teaching Drama to young people, and is now Head of Drama at Darton College in Barnsley.

This will be Richard's fourth show with LAOS, first making his debut playing Bernardo in West Side Story here at the Playhouse in 2006. He appeared in the ensemble of Jazz It Up at the Carriageworks, and more recently played Lefou in Beauty and the Beast (2010).

Further afield, Richard appeared as The Lion in The Wizard of Oz with St Andrew's Players, and Britney Spears in We Will Rock You, a role he has played three times with HSAP at Harrogate Theatre, Locked Out Productions at Wakefield Theatre Royal and Stage 84 at Bradford Alhambra.

Paul Bamber

Paul Bamber plays Benny Southstreet

This is Paul's fifth production with LAOS, first joining in 2009 for The King & I as the Interpreter, and since then appearing as Sasha in Fiddler on the Roof, a dancing Salt Pot in Beauty and the Beast and earlier this year in the company of Chess.

Paul first took to the stage rather late at the age of 29 at Yeadon Town Hall with The Grove and Rawdon Theatre Company in Spend, Spend, Spend (2006). He followed this as a member of the ensemble in several shows before appearing as a principal with various companies, including Carmen Ghia in The Producers and Keno in The Full Monty (both Brassneck Theatre), The Tinman in The Wizard of Oz (Skipton AODS) and also Lumiere in the Yeadon Amateurs production of Beauty and the Beast, for which Paul received the Wharfedale Theatre Festival Award for best Supporting Actor in a Musical.

Nicky Burrows

Nicky Burrows plays Sarah Brown

Nicky started singing when she was 9 years old, and appeared in the chorus for Opera North when she was 11. Aged 16, she went to Leeds College of Music  to study Musical Theatre for two years, followed by a spell at Harper Adams Agricultural College, and subsequently obtained a teaching qualification and now works in equestrianism, so quite a change! However, whilst at Harper Adams, Nicky still maintained her interest in music, passing her Grade 8 Singing with distinction.

She has sung in many local festivals, and this year was awarded the Henry Gill Memorial Trophy for the most promising singer under 25 years at the Wharfedale Festival.

Nicky played her first leading role earlier this year as Phyllis in Leeds Gilbert & Sullivan Society's production of Iolanthe. This is her first show with LAOS.

Nathan Winn

Nathan Winn plays Nicely-Nicely Johnson

After completing three years' training in Musical Theatre, Nathan graduated with a first class honours degree and went on to perform professionally for various companies. Throughout his training, he performed in various musicals and operettas, including The Pirates of Penzance, Jason Robert Brown's  Parade, and the highly acclaimed Spring Awakening.

After his graduating showcase in London's West End, Nathan moved to London and worked for Europe's leading all male theatre company, The Lord Chamberlain's Men. Nathan's most recent professional credits include working for Warner, and a new demo recording in association with Universal Music for Les Miserables star, Alfie Boe.

Nathan released his first vocal album in 2008, and is hoping to soon release his second, this time using the sound of the big band to create a new swing album.

Mike Porter

Mike Porter plays Big Jule

Mike joined LAOS to play the part of Frederick in The Pirates of Penzance in 1987, having been previously with Kippax AOS, where he played numerous principal roles, including Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls (his second appearance in the show, the first being whilst at College). Since joining LAOS, he has played many leading principal roles with us, including Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady (2001), Julian Marsh in 42nd Street (2003), Horace Vandergelder in Hello Dolly (2004) and Father in Ragtime (2007), all at the Grand Theatre. At the West Yorkshire Playhouse, he played Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar (2005), The Beadle in Sweeney Todd (2008), Capt. Brackett in South Pacific (2011) and, one of his favourite roles, Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof (2010).

Joe Mellor

Joe Mellor plays Sky Masterson

Joe first began performing on the stage as a student at Bruntcliffe High School, playing roles such as Danny Zuko in Grease, Fagin in Oliver and Ariel in Return to the Forbidden Planet. Since leaving school, he has played the leading role in a film called Expired, and has appeared in a variety of principal roles including Bernardo in West Side Story (Upstagers at Bradford Alhambra); Joe Vegas in Fame, Lt Schrank in West Side Story and Paul McCartney in We Will Rock You (Locked Out Productions at Wakefield Theatre Royal); and Joe Casey in Our House (Harrogate St Andrews Players at Harrogate Theatre).

With LAOS, Joe played Fyedka in Fiddler on the Roof and Carmen Ghia in The Producers, both here at the Playhouse, and in 2010 he played The Beast in our production of Beauty and the Beast at the Grand.

Joe also works as a vocalist for "A" List Lookalikes and Ther Dance Mob Agencies, performing at Corporate events. 

Gemma Durkin

Gemma Durkin plays Miss Adelaide

Gemma trained in singing, acting and dance from an early age and has performed with the Manchester Youth Theatre, National Youth Music Theatre and at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Professional credits include Little Cosette in Les Miserables at the Palace Theatre in Manchester and various radio and TV roles. As a Cambridge University Choral Scholar, Gemma has toured as a soloist throughout the UK, Europe, Singapore and Australia.

With LAOS, Gemma has played Tuptim (The King and I), Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Nellie Forbush (South Pacific) and Florence Vassy in Chess earlier this year. She received the Maureen Butler award in 2011 for outstanding performances within the Society.

Other pricipal roles include Cathy (Whistle Down the Wind), Dorothy (The Wizard of Oz), Julie Jordan (Carousel), Miss Dorothy in Thoroughly Modern Milly (Wharfedale Festival of Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical) and Louise 'Gypsy Rose' Lee in Gypsy (Wharfedale Festival of Theatre Award for Best Actress in a Musical).

Dave Bigland

David Bigland plays Harry the Horse

After almost ten years of working with LAOS, this is Dave's first principal role. His involvment with LAOS began as a member of the stage crew for 42nd Street (2003) and continued as such for productions like Musical Years (2003-2005), Hello Dolly (2004), Jesus Christ Superstar (2005), West Side Story (2006) and Sweeney Todd (2008). Dave has since left the 'dark side' to appear on stage, joining the chorus for Oliver (2008) at the Leeds Grand Theatre, The Producers (2009) here at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, and the most recent production of Chess earlier this year.

Christine Castle

Christine Castle plays General Matilda B Cartwright

Christine started dancing at the age of 3, her first show as a dancer being Good Night, Vienna when she was 11. She moved to Leeds in the early 70s to join Yorkshire Television as a make-up artist, and at the same time joined Leeds Thespians. Christine was also a founder member of the Potato Room Players, notably cast as Reno in Anything Goes, Rose in Gypsy, Jacqueline in La Cage Aux Folles (with Danny La Rue) and Golde in Fiddler on the Roof, a part she has playedfive times with various companies.

For LAOS, Christine played Yente the Matchmaker in Fiddler on the Roof (2010). Last year she stepped away from musicals to appear in Blithe Spirit as Madam Arcati with Yeadon Amateurs, for which she was honoured to receive the Best Supporting Actress award at the Wharfedale Festival.

Fraser Wilkinson

Fraser Wilkinson plays Rusty Charlie

As a youngster, Fraser performed in the professional run of The Sound of Music at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. He also appeared in the West End and Edinburgh Festival with the National Youth Theatre.

He first joined LAOS in 2001 for My Fair Lady. He has also appeared in a variety of theatres across the North, most notably playing the role of Tony in West Side Story in five different productions, totalling 36 performances! Other favourite roles include Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, Younger Brother in Ragtime, Billy Bigelow in Carousel, Kashoggi in We Will Rock You, Lt Cable in South Pacific, and earlier this year, Anatoly Sergievsky in Chess.
